Who I Serve:

I specialize in helping parents of children under 12 years of age discover ways to facilitate less sibling rivalry and create more sibling harmony between their children.

I am passionate about helping parents not only prepare themselves but also prepare older children for the arrival of a new baby.  I believe that parental mindset is instrumental in building positive sibling relationships from the start and greatly influences the tone for their children's future relationship.

Through 1:1 coaching, group coaching, and parent education workshops, I help parents define and achieve their parenting goals and vision for their family with a simple 6-step path I call CREATE.

What is a Parent Coach?

As your coach, I will help you strategize effective tools to achieve desired parenting goals in a way that honors a healthy parent/child relationship. Parenting is a life-long commitment. What happens in the foundational stages with your child shapes your future relationship as well as the person your child becomes. As we collaborate, I will support you by helping you:

  • Define your current parenting challenge
  • Explore your desired vision for your role as a parent
  • Understand your child's developmental stage so that your expectations are realistic
  • Map out specific research-based approaches to facilitate the change you hope to attain
  • Practice and implement strategies and ideas

We will create a plan and design steps that will help you feel better equipped to handle difficult situations with your child while maintaining and upholding the kindness and respect that your relationship deserves.

Why do you need a Parent Coach?

Parenting is hard work. You are raising a human from infancy into adulthood and most of us don’t receive training on handling the complicated and emotional challenges that comes along with that.

When we find ourselves in stressful situations with our child, we often revert to how we ourselves were parented, and sometimes, those reactions are not always the most appropriate ones.

Having a parent coach to support and help you navigate developmentally appropriate ways to deal with the concerns and challenges of raising your child helps you gain the confidence you need to become the parent you have always wanted to be. Together, we determine the guidelines that can help you create a day-to-day reality that most closely resembles your ideal vision for your interactions and relationship with your child.

Who is Lalaine?

First and foremost, I am a parent just like you!

My twin daughters were just 10 months old when I found out my son was on the way and then seven years later, my fourth child completed our family.  Having three children so close in age and then adding a fourth child with Down syndrome to the mix has provided me with much valuable insight into sibling relationships and I bring that parenting wisdom and experience to you.

In my professional career, I’ve worked with hundreds of children and families as a parent educator, an early childhood teacher, a program director, a school-site director, and assumed many community volunteer roles. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in child development and am credentialed by the state of California in adult education, specializing in parent education and family management.

However, I earned my most valued education in the field of parenting from raising my four children who, today, are productive, healthy adults. They’ve provided me with instrumental hands-on experience in the many facets and stages of parenting, including the family dynamics that comes with raising a child with Down syndrome. They continue to inspire me and stretch the bounds of my parenting skills every day.

I believe that parenting is the most challenging, most rewarding, and most important life-long jobs that exists. Unfortunately, it’s often the one job that comes with little to no training or educational framework to learn effective skills along the way.

That is why I founded Parenting With Lalaine, Inc.; to help guide, support, and educate parents as they navigate their unique paths through parenthood.  I specialize in helping parents with children under 12-years of age CREATE a path from sibling rivalry to sibling harmony.

Testimonials

"Lalaine and her sage wisdom is the "how to manual" you don't get when you have your child. If raising healthy, well adjusted loving children is your goal, then having Lalaine in your camp will definitely be a great start in making that a reality." -Kim Petroff, San Mateo, CA

"My husband and I often joke that one of the most important jobs we have in life is raising our kids, and yet it does not come with an instruction manual!  We are so grateful to have found Lalaine when we encountered challenges with sibling rivalry at home.  First and foremost, Lalaine is a great listener.  She took the time to understand our needs and offered specific techniques and strategies to address our immediate concerns.  She also helped us develop a long-term vision for our family.  It wasn’t something we had sought out initially (or think we needed), but it has become a powerful tool we use to remind us and the kids of our principles and family values.  We have learned so much about parenting from Lalaine’s coaching, and the changes we’ve implemented have truly helped us bond as a family.  We are grateful and would highly recommend her to other parents!" -Sandra G.

"Lalaine is a bright light in the parenting world - full of parenting wisdom and a true focus on and passion for the importance of childhood. She has a gift for helping parents step back and see the larger picture and sort through problems with a practical and positive approach. Her decades of experience as a parent and parent educator allow her to draw on multiple approaches and perspectives and provide strategies for a myriad of parenting challenges and each unique child." -Carol Phillips, Executive Director, Little Hands, Belmont, CA

"I have had the opportunity to meet Lalaine at our local preschool in which she served as a teacher for both of my boys. Her love and joy for both kids and the parents transcribed in her work. As an expert in early childhood education, she has coached hundreds of parents (including myself) on how to raise happy, curious, compassionate, confident, and brave kids. As a new parent, I struggled with balancing career, child rearing, and self care, with my first child. Through our 1:1 coaching, evidence based books and resources, and her general compassion for people, I was able to create healthy boundaries, set routines, and have joyful parenting and family life. Her coaching helped me better prepare for my second child making the transition easier. Her coaching tools has also helped our family successfully manage any new challenges that come up: start of school, moving to a new home, even transitioning to the new norm of covid-19. Everytime I see Lalaine, I tell her, "Thank you for helping me raise my kids and giving me the tools to become the mother I want to be." I highly recommend Lalaine Frankel as your personal coach." -Kim D. , Belmont, CA

"Being a parent of a child with special needs can feel lonely- so much of your life is figuring out an alternative path and figuring out your own way.  I was connected to Lalaine through a friend and met for coffee.  Lalaine was warm, welcoming, and very helpful.  I left the conversation feeling heard, and also had some great tips on how to be a better parent for my son inspired from her journey.  Thank you!" -Rachel W., Redwood City, CA

"Lalaine is not only an amazing teacher to children, she is a phenomenal resource to anyone navigating the complicated road of parenthood. Lalaine understands each child is unique, as is every family. She is patient, kind and full of wisdom ~ truly a guiding force that helped us learn how to become better parents by not only taking care of our kids, but by taking care of ourselves. Being a parent is the hardest and the most rewarding job in the world, and we feel very fortunate to have had Lalaine there during those formative first years. "-Jamie & Eric White, San Carlos, CA

"Both of my daughters were lucky to have Teacher Lalaine as their first teacher which means I benefitted from having her wisdom and guidance as I navigated though having one and later two children. Lalaine is a wealth of knowledge and her approach to parenting is calm, loving, and logical. The discussions I've had with Lalaine have stuck with me over the years and impact my parenting on a daily basis. She has had a profound effect on me as a parent and I will forever be grateful." -Meghan G., Redwood City, CA

"Lalaine has decades of experience as an early child educator. She was our son’s preschool teacher and provided my spouse and I with online parent education through out the school year. Her play based, child directed philosophy helped guide us through the ups and downs of raising a toddler. She provided us with the tools and strategies to manage the big emotional moments. I especially appreciated the language she modeled for us during our online session. I used those exact words to help our son work through a tantrum. Instead of just telling him to stop crying, Teacher Lalaine gave us the tools and language to help our son feel truly heard and validated. Her online parent education helped our whole family. Thank you Teacher Lalaine!" -Sara A. and Tat L, San Francisco, CA

FAQ

What is the difference between a coach and a therapist?

I am a parent coach, not a licensed psychotherapist.  Though I use evidence-based research to guide and support you with ideas and strategies that will aid you in attaining your goals as a parent, my coaching does not involve the identification, diagnosis, or treatment of any mental health disorders as defined by the American Psychiatric Association. My objective is to create a plan for you to develop the skills and gain the confidence needed to parent your child in ways that empower and strengthen your parent/child relationship.

How does it work?

All coaching sessions are conducted virtually. Schedule a FREE 30-Minute "Getting Acquainted Session" so that we can get to know each other better and discover the fit of our potential working relationship.

After the "Getting Acquainted Session", a client intake form and coaching agreement form will be sent to you.  Once the required forms are completed and submitted back to me, you may then schedule your first "One Hour Parent Coaching Session". During this appointment, we will define your current challenge with your child, explore what you hope to accomplish, and create a plan to help you attain your goal.

In the initial phase of coaching, I recommend scheduling sessions once a week.  After the first month, the frequency of sessions will be modified based upon individual circumstances. Follow-up 60-minute coaching sessions are strongly recommended so we may assess how things are progressing, make alterations if needed, and provide continued guidance and support. It takes time and practice to change established habits.

I will commit to you and hold you accountable for the action items we decide to pursue to help you reach your goals.  You will set the focus of the coaching sessions and determine how much change you are willing to make. You will be expected to be honest about your progress and to discuss concerns should the coaching relationship not be meeting your expectations. Parent coaching does not offer any guarantee of success or definitive changed behavior of your child. Committing the time to practice and consistently implement positive parenting skills and strategies, will however, help you move closer to your desired parenting goals.

Can both parents participate in coaching sessions?

I encourage parenting units to participate in the coaching sessions together because I find it most effective when they work as a team with the same common goal for their child.  However, it is not a requirement for our work together. Both parents or other parenting partners may participate in a session, but should be updated on prior sessions as much as possible to allow for the best use of scheduled time.

How do I reschedule a coaching session?

If you are not able to make a scheduled appointment, kindly notify me 24 hours in advance via email. You may reschedule an appointment that was cancelled 24-hours prior to a scheduled appointment but refunds are not available. If you cancel within 24 hours of a scheduled appointment, there will be no refund or credit for cancellation.
